APA Citation Generator (7th Edition)

The 7ESL APA Citation Generator follows the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association — the default style in psychology, education, nursing and much of the social sciences. Enter the source details and it produces the reference-list entry with correct author initials, the year in brackets, sentence-case titles, italic journal and book names, and both forms of the in-text citation: parenthetical, like (Nguyen, 2024), and narrative, like Nguyen (2024).

APA rules the tool applies for you

APA 7 is full of details that are easy to get wrong. Authors are inverted with initials — "Nguyen, T. H.", never the full first name. Up to twenty authors are listed in the reference; from twenty-one, the first nineteen are listed, then an ellipsis, then the final author. In-text, one or two authors are named in full, but three or more become the first author plus "et al." from the very first citation. Titles of articles and web pages take sentence case — only the first word, the word after a colon, and proper nouns keep capitals — while journal names keep their capitals and go in italics along with the volume number. The generator applies all of this automatically.

Citing websites in APA

For a web page, APA 7 wants the author (or the organisation), the full date in the form (2024, March 5), the page title in italic sentence case, the site name, and the URL — with no "Retrieved from" unless the content changes over time. When the author and the site name are the same organisation, the site name is dropped to avoid repetition; the generator handles that case too. If there is no date, it writes (n.d.) in both the reference and the in-text citation.
