Part 1 — Find the differences

Look at the two pictures. They are nearly the same, but some things are different. The examiner tells you about her picture. Tell the examiner how your picture is different.

  1. Here are two pictures. My picture is nearly the same as yours, but some things are different. In my picture there's a whale in the sea. What about your picture? Example: In my picture there isn't a whale. There's a dolphin in the sea.
  2. In my picture the bird in the sky is red. What about your picture? Example: In my picture the bird is yellow.
  3. In my picture the boat is orange. What about your picture? Example: In my picture the boat isn't orange. It's blue.
  4. In my picture there's a shell under the umbrella. What about your picture? Example: In my picture the shell isn't under the umbrella. It's on the left of the beach.

Part 2 — Ask and answer

The examiner asks you about Katy's trip to an island. Look at your picture and answer. Then ask the examiner questions about Harry's trip to the lake.

  1. Katy went to an island last summer. I don't know anything about her trip. How did Katy get to the island? Example: She went by boat.
  2. What colour was the boat? Example: It was yellow.
  3. What animal did she see on the island? Example: She saw a parrot. It was red.
  4. What was the weather like? Example: It was sunny and hot.
  5. My friend Harry went to a lake last summer. You don't know anything about his trip, so ask me some questions. Example: How did Harry get to the lake? What animal did he see there? What was the weather like?

Part 3 — Tell the story

These pictures tell a story. It's called 'Robert and the whale'. Look at the pictures first. Then tell the story.

  1. This is Robert. One sunny morning, Robert goes out to sea in his little orange boat. He wants to sail to the island. Now you tell the story. Example: Picture two: Robert is sailing near the island. He's very excited. Picture three: suddenly a huge whale comes up next to his boat. Robert is very surprised! Picture four: the whale is friendly. It swims behind the boat, and they go past the island together. Picture five: now Robert is back on the beach. He finds a beautiful shell and takes it home.

Part 4 — About you

Now the examiner will ask you some questions about you.

  1. Have you ever been to the beach or to an island? Tell me about it. Example: Yes, last summer I went to the beach with my family. We swam in the sea every day, and I found lots of shells. I didn't want to go home!
  2. Which wild animal would you most like to see? Why? Example: I'd like to see a dolphin, because dolphins are very clever and friendly. I saw one on TV once, and it jumped really high out of the water!
  3. Do you like hot, sunny weather or cold, wet weather better? Why? Example: I like hot, sunny weather better, because I can play outside with my friends. When it rains, we have to stay inside.
