Part 1 — Question card
This is a recorded speaking test on a computer (about 3 minutes). Look at the card. Read the passage silently for 20 seconds. Then read it aloud. Next, answer two questions about the passage and one question about you. Answer in short, clear English.
- Please read the passage aloud. Example: Aya has a good friend at school. Her name is Nana. They play tennis on Saturdays. They like ice cream, too.
- Please look at the passage. What sport do Aya and Nana play? Example: They play tennis.
- When do they play tennis? Example: They play tennis on Saturdays.
- What do you do with your friends on weekends? Example: I play soccer with them.

How Grade 5 is scored
EIKEN reports every skill on the EIKEN CSE scale and decides a pass from the CSE total, so there is no fixed pass mark in raw answers. For Grade 5, Reading and Listening make up the test result, and the computer speaking test is reported separately as pass or fail. On 7ESL, Reading and Listening give an instant practice score. Speaking comes with model answers for every question.
