How US Citizenship Test is scored

The real naturalization test has no score: each part is pass or fail. For the English test, the officer decides whether you can understand and answer questions in the interview, then you must read one of up to three sentences and write one of up to three sentences correctly. For the 2025 civics test you need 12 correct answers out of up to 20 questions (the officer stops at 12 correct or 9 incorrect); for the 2008 civics test you need 6 correct answers out of up to 10 questions. On 7ESL, reading, writing and civics are checked instantly with the USCIS rules and give a pass or fail result; the interview comes with model answers. 7ESL Pro members can also ask the AI examiner for feedback on their interview answers, reading, writing and civics answers.
