I hope that I am allowed to reply here. This is the first time that I have done this. I am a retired teacher/librarian. I have had children with this same question. Some of the older students (4th or 5th graders usually) are embarrassed because they do not want to read "baby" books. Our school was extremely diverse which was wonderful and since many students were in the same situation they felt safe. I would suggest trying series books. The characters are mostly the same which is very helpful. I have so many names that I could suggest but I hesitate to make this email any longer that it already is. Here are a few authors that I hope you do not find too "babyish". Mary Pope Osborne, Dav Pilkey, Dan Gutman, Beverly Cleary, and David Adler. There are so many more too. Put any of those in your search engine and you will get plenty of books to try. I hope that I did not break any forum rules. Mary
For sure. Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Pick something easier so you actually enjoy the story, not just the vocabulary!
