How to practise with a cue card
Work the way the test works. Read the card and give yourself exactly one minute to make notes — one word per bullet is enough. Then speak for two minutes without stopping; record yourself on your phone. Only afterwards, read the Band 8+ sample and press Listen to hear it read aloud: notice how it covers the four bullets in order, stays personal and specific, and uses linking phrases to keep going. Steal the useful language, then do the same card again — the second attempt is where the improvement happens.
Why the sample answers are different
Most sample answers online are written English read aloud — too formal, too perfect, and impossible to imitate. The samples here are generated as speech: contractions, natural asides, personal detail rather than encyclopaedia facts, and a length (200-260 words) that actually fits two minutes. That is what Band 8 sounds like in the room, and it is a realistic model to copy. Print the practice sheet to use the card in class or with a study partner — the sample answer prints on a separate page so it works as a teacher key.
