The 7ESL Paraphrasing Tool rewrites your text in fresh wording while keeping the original meaning. Paste a sentence or a paragraph and the tool returns several rewritten versions in different styles, so you can pick the one that fits your purpose. It is built for learners practising how to express an idea in more than one way, for writers who want to avoid repeating themselves, and for students learning to restate sources in their own words. The rewrites are produced by AI, so treat them as strong drafts and read each one before you use it.

How to use the Paraphrasing Tool

Type or paste your text into the box and press Paraphrase. The tool sends your text to be rewritten and then shows the results, each one labelled by its style. You can paraphrase a single sentence or a short passage, edit your input, and run it again to compare new versions. Because the rewriting is done by AI, the output may vary slightly each time you run it.

Reading the results

Before you press Paraphrase, choose how much to change: Light keeps most of your wording, Medium rewrites it naturally and Strong changes most words and the sentence structure. To keep a name or a technical term exactly as it is, press Freeze words and type it under Keep these words, or select it in your text and press Add selected text; the result tells you if a style did not keep it. Each style comes back as a labelled block: standard and fluency with a free account, plus formal, academic, creative, simple, casual and shorten on 7ESL Pro. Show changes highlights the words that differ from your text. Tap a word in a result to see synonyms when 7ESL has them and swap one in, and press Undo to go back. Copy keeps your swaps.

Using paraphrases well

A good paraphrase keeps the meaning but changes the words and structure, rather than just swapping a few words for synonyms. Use the formal and academic modes when you need a professional tone, the simple mode when you want your writing to be easy to follow, and the shorten mode to tighten a wordy sentence. Always read the result against your original to make sure the meaning is intact, since AI can occasionally shift a nuance. For related help you can move to the summarizer to condense text or the grammar checker to polish the final wording.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Paraphrasing Tool do?

It rewrites your text in fresh wording while keeping the meaning. With a free account you get the Standard and Fluency styles; 7ESL Pro adds formal, academic, creative, simple, casual and shorten, so you can choose the one that fits.

What styles of rewrite can I get?

Eight: standard and fluency with a free account, plus formal, academic, creative, simple, casual and shorten on 7ESL Pro. Each is shown as a labelled block, and Pro can show two styles side by side.

Are the rewrites always accurate?

The rewrites are generated by AI, so they are usually strong but not guaranteed to be perfect. Always read a paraphrase against your original to confirm the meaning has not shifted.

Can I paraphrase a whole paragraph?

Yes. You can paste a single sentence or a short passage. For longer text, work in sections so you can check each rewritten part carefully.

Is the Paraphrasing Tool free?

It is free with a 7ESL account. Signed-in users get a few free rewrites every day, and a Pro account makes it unlimited (fair use).

What do Light, Medium and Strong do?

They set how much of your text is changed. Light keeps most of your words and only changes what is needed, Medium rewrites naturally with new wording, and Strong changes most of the words and the sentence structure. The meaning stays the same at every level.

Can I keep some words unchanged?

Yes. Press Freeze words and add up to 10 words or short phrases under Keep these words, or select them in your text and press Add selected text. The tool asks for them to stay exactly as written and checks every result; if a style did not keep one, it tells you which.

What do I get free, and what does Pro add?

With a free 7ESL account you get 5 rewrites a day of up to 225 words, in the Standard and Fluency styles, with Light, Medium and Strong, frozen words, synonyms for the words in your result and Show changes. 7ESL Pro adds six more styles (formal, academic, creative, simple, casual and shorten) and shows two styles side by side, with unlimited rewrites (fair use).
