Remove Extra Spaces

Clean up messy text: collapse double spaces, trim line ends, and remove blank lines or all line breaks.

Results

The 7ESL Remove Extra Spaces tool cleans messy whitespace out of any text in one click. Paste text that arrived full of double spaces, ragged line endings and stray blank lines, choose what to clean, and copy back a tidy version. It is the fastest fix for text copied out of PDFs, emails, spreadsheets, subtitles or scanned documents, which almost always carry invisible formatting junk with them.

What each option does

Collapse repeated spaces and tabs turns any run of spaces or tab characters into a single space, fixing the classic double-space-after-a-period habit and the column-style padding that spreadsheets export. Trim spaces at line starts and ends removes the invisible spaces that hide at the edges of lines and break comparisons, search matches and markdown formatting. Remove empty lines deletes blank lines so a list or address block becomes compact. Remove all line breaks joins everything into one continuous paragraph, which rescues text from PDFs that hard-wrap every line at the column edge. The options combine, so one pass can join PDF lines, collapse the leftover double spaces and trim the result.

How to use the cleaner

Paste your text, tick the options you need (the two most common are on by default), and click Clean text. The cleaned version appears below with a Copy button and a note showing exactly how many characters were removed. Everything runs in your browser; your text never touches a server, so the tool is safe for contracts, manuscripts and anything else you would not paste into a random website.

Where messy whitespace comes from

PDF copy-paste is the biggest offender, because PDFs store text line by line and every visual line ends in a hard break. Emails quoted several times accumulate trailing spaces; spreadsheets pad cells with them; legacy typing habits double the space after every sentence; and content management systems quietly choke on all of it. Cleaning whitespace before pasting into your CMS, translation tool or word processor avoids the strange spacing bugs later. Once the text is clean, the Word Counter and Sentence Counter will give you accurate statistics, because stray whitespace inflates counts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove double spaces from my text?

Paste the text, keep the "Collapse repeated spaces and tabs" option ticked, and click Clean text. Every run of two or more spaces or tabs becomes a single space, and the cleaned text appears with a Copy button.

How do I fix text copied from a PDF?

Tick "Remove ALL line breaks" and keep "Collapse repeated spaces" on. PDFs end every visual line with a hard break, so joining the breaks into spaces and collapsing the leftovers restores normal flowing paragraphs.

Can I remove blank lines but keep normal line breaks?

Yes. Tick "Remove empty lines" and leave "Remove ALL line breaks" unticked. Blank lines disappear while the line structure of lists and addresses is preserved.

Does the tool change my words or punctuation?

No. It only edits whitespace: spaces, tabs and line breaks. Words, punctuation and capitalization pass through untouched, and the note under the result tells you exactly how many characters were removed.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The cleaning runs entirely in your browser, so your text is never sent to a server, stored or logged.
