The 7ESL Rhyming Dictionary finds words that rhyme with any English word you enter. Type a word such as house or fire and the tool returns matching words drawn from a full pronunciation dictionary, so the rhymes are based on how words actually sound rather than just how they are spelled. It is built for songwriters, poets, students writing verse, and learners who want to hear the sound patterns of English more clearly.

How to use the Rhyming Dictionary

Enter a single word in the box and press Find rhymes. Results appear instantly and update as you type. Because rhyme depends on pronunciation, the tool reads the word's phonetic key from the dictionary, which means it handles tricky spellings well: it will rhyme through with blue and true even though the letters look nothing alike. If a word is missing or has no recorded pronunciation, the tool simply reports that no rhymes were found.

Reading the results

The rhymes are grouped by syllable count, with one-syllable matches first, then two syllables, and so on, ending with an Other group for words whose syllable count is unknown. This grouping lets you pick rhymes that fit the rhythm of your line. Within each group, every rhyme is a colour-coded chip: a perfect rhyme shares the same stressed ending sound as your word (such as cat and hat), while a near rhyme is a close but not exact match (a slant or loose rhyme such as cat and cap). Hover over any chip to confirm its type.

Tips for using rhymes well

Perfect rhymes give the cleanest, most predictable sound and suit traditional verse, nursery rhymes, and chorus hooks. Near rhymes feel fresher and more modern, and they hugely widen your choices when a perfect rhyme is hard to find. Match the syllable count to your line so the meter stays even, and read your candidates aloud, since the ear is the final judge of a rhyme. Learners can use the tool to practise sound families and spot how many different spellings share one English sound.
