Things That Are Pink with Facts
Lakes That Are Pink
Lake Hillier
It’s believed that lake Hillier was first discovered in 1802, by Matthew Flinders, during an expedition. This pink lake is found in Western Australia. When the algae and bacteria inhabiting this lake mixed, a bubblegum pink color was produced, making the lake attain its pink hue.
Lonar Lake (Lonar crater)
This 113-hectare lake is found in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, India. It was formed due to a meteorite collision impact which is believed to have taken place around 52,000 ± 6,000 years ago. The presence of Haloarchaea microbes caused this lake to turn pink.
Animals That Are Pink
Orchid mantis
Orchid mantis (mantises in plural) look like flowers. An adaptation known as aggressive mimicry, which is essential for survival. These carnivorous insects are known to change their colors from pink to dark brown colors when they sense ‘danger’ in their environment.
Pink Manta ray
Pink manta rays were recently discovered in 2015. Inhabiting Australia’s waters, these fish have the largest brain-to-body weight ratio than any other living fish species. Pink manta rays don’t lay eggs; instead, they give birth to little mantas after a gestational age of 12-13 months.
Bargibant’s pygmy seahorse
It’s believed that pygmy seahorses are monogamous! These 2.4cm long fish can take the color of whichever species of gorgonian coral they live on, making them one of the best-camouflaged animals in the ‘water kingdom.’
