Types of Snacks and Their Facts
What Are Snacks?
Snacks are ready-to-eat types of food. Throughout history, any small portion of fruit, nut, or vegetable in between, before, or after meals were considered a snack. Snacks weren’t necessarily eaten to fill you but rather to give you a burst of energy. As technology continued to rapidly evolve into what we have today.
Snacks went from all-natural small portions of food to today, processed packaged food that is either very salty or filled with heaps of sugar and multiple feel-good chemical compounds to induce a state of dopamine or pleasure. Modern-day snacks are much better in taste compared to more traditional snacks however they are not as healthy as traditional all-natural snacks.
There are debates on what can actually be considered a snack. However, you or people want to challenge it. Natural or processed snacks are portions of food meant to either fill you and/or give you a burst of energy that can either be salty, sugar, or in between both treats.
Types of Snacks
Salty Snacks
Over half of the snacks sold commercially are all salty snacks. Conveniently available everywhere. Salty snacks are a phenomenal recovery food especially after you worked out or had a hard day. The ingredients used help you regain nerve function, and regulate muscle contractions, and your blood volume. Now, most salty snacks are crunchy unfortunately due to how they are made. When their packaging is opened, their crispiness won’t last as long as sweeter kinds of snacks. It is best to consume them immediately after opening. For more information on how to store them, be sure to read their package before purchase,
Sweet Snacks
The other half of the snack market goes to the sweet type. The sweetness of these sugary treats can leave a good aftertaste after you eat them. The snacks you see available in this type are chocolates, candies, and baked sweets. They come in a variety of flavors that blend well with fruits, nuts, and chocolate. This gives you that sugar boost when you feel lightheaded due to a decrease in your sugar levels. Compared to salty snacks, their texture is unaffected even after you have opened their packaging. They also have a longer shelf life. You can store them sealed in your fridge if you don’t finish them in one sitting.
Conclusion
Without a doubt, snacks play a role in our lives. They provide the energy boost we need in case we miss our meals and our sugar levels diminish. Sometimes, snack cravings inter-change between salty and sweet, and having the idea of how to balance between salty and sweet snacks makes it more of an enjoyable experience. Simply put, snacks are all about comfort and that feeling of happiness that you get whenever you get snacks.
