Vocabulary Flashcards is a free ESL English word study tool — not a game but a focused 10-card session for serious learners. Each session shows ten English flashcards. The front of each card has a single word; the back reveals the full entry: definition, part of speech, IPA pronunciation, a speaker button, an example sentence and the CEFR level tag. After each card you self-rate "I know it" or "Still learning", and the cards you are still learning come back later in the same session until you clear them.
The deck is drawn from the 7ESL lexicon, the same word source used by every other game on the site, so what you learn here directly reinforces vocabulary that turns up in Daily Word Quest, Connections, Spelling Bee and Definition Match. It is a single mixed deck at A1 to B1 — everyday words like borrow, although, opportunity and progress — served in a fresh random order every time, with no level, word-class or theme filter to set up. Open it and you are studying within a second.

How do I use Vocabulary Flashcards?
Each session deals ten cards. Read the word on the front and try to recall its meaning. Tap "Show Answer" to flip the card and reveal the definition, IPA pronunciation, a speaker button, an example sentence and the CEFR level. Then tap "I know it" or "Still learning". Known cards leave the deck; the rest go to the back and come round again, so a session ends when you have cleared all ten or given each hard card its three passes.
Does this use spaced repetition?
Not across days — this is a self-rated session, not a full scheduler like Anki. What it does have is repetition inside the session: a card you mark "Still learning" is pushed to the back of the deck and shown again, up to three views in total, so you get a second and third go at the words that are not sticking. Ratings are not carried over to your next session, and each new session deals a fresh random ten.
Can I filter the word list?
No — there is deliberately nothing to set up. The deck is a single mixed pool at A1 to B1, reshuffled server-side for every session, so you cannot pick a level, a part of speech or a theme. Are pronunciations included?
Yes. Every flashcard back includes the IPA transcription and a speaker button, and the review list at the end of the session gives each hard word its own speaker button too. The audio is generated with Google Cloud text-to-speech, with your browser's own speech voice as the fallback if that is unavailable — clear and consistent, though not a studio recording of a named speaker.
Is Vocabulary Flashcards free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up required. You can run unlimited 10-card sessions as a guest. A free 7ESL account is only useful if you want the XP from your sessions to follow you between phone and laptop and merge with the rest of your 7ESL history across the games and lesson articles.
