WordVenture by 7ESL
Guide Lyra the word wizard through six great castles - a green town, a desert tomb, a living volcano, the frozen wilds, a robot-invaded city and a fallen world - answering English questions to battle monsters, open magic gates and bring the lost Word Stars home.
About WordVenture by 7ESL
WordVenture by 7ESL is the featured English-learning game on 7ESL - a free side-scrolling adventure that turns real English practice into a quest. Long ago the great Word Throne shattered and the words of the world flew away, scattered as six Word Stars across six distant lands. You play Lyra, a young word wizard, and your journey is to cross all six and bring the words home.
The adventure spans six hand-drawn worlds, each with its own story, monsters and boss: Greenford, a peaceful town that lost its words; Sunscar, a scorching desert hiding an ancient tomb; Ember Spire, a living volcano where words burn away; Frostgate, a frozen wilderness stalked by giant ice beasts; Neonfall City, a glittering modern city overrun by an army of AI war robots; and The Last City, a once-great city fallen to an alien invasion, where four old gods - of Thunder, War, Wisdom and Love - arm Lyra with legendary gear to face The Unmaker. Each world ends in a boss fight and a Word Star.
Every few steps you meet something. A friendly villager, miner or merchant offers gold if you answer an English question. A magic gate, bridge or hazard blocks the path until you win a quick mini-game - unscramble, listen-and-find, word-building, dodging, idiom-matching and more. Monsters must be beaten in real turn-based combat: answer correctly and Lyra strikes, the monster loses HP; answer wrong and it hits back. Earn gold to forge each castle armour set, claim relic weapons and shields, buy pets that boost your stats, and guard your hearts all the way to the boss.
WordVenture has two modes. Junior (ages 4-10) uses big pictures, friendly audio and easy words, and now also teaches simple sentence structure, bound to the Cambridge Starters and Movers path. Adventurer (all ages) serves the full range - synonyms, antonyms, idioms, collocations, prepositions, definitions and grammar - drawn from real 7ESL exam and practice content and graded by CEFR level from A1 to C2, with later castles asking harder questions and tougher monsters. It plays instantly as a guest, works on phones in landscape, and is free with no ads inside the game.

Frequently asked questions
How do I play WordVenture?
You guide Lyra, a young word wizard, through six fantasy worlds on a world map. In each world you meet characters who reward correct English answers with gold, magic gates that open when you win a short mini-game, and monsters you defeat with turn-based combat - every correct answer is an attack. Spend the gold you earn on armour, relics and pets, then beat each castle boss to win its Word Star and bring the lost words home.
How many levels are there?
There are six great castles, each a themed world with its own scenes, monsters and boss: Greenford (a green town), Sunscar (a desert tomb), Ember Spire (a volcano), Frostgate (frozen wilds), Neonfall City (a robot-invaded city) and The Last City (a fallen world where four gods help Lyra face The Unmaker). Each castle ends with a boss fight and a Word Star, and the difficulty rises as you go.
What happens in a monster fight?
Combat is question-by-question. When you answer correctly, Lyra strikes and the monster loses HP; when you answer wrong or run out of time, the monster hits Lyra and your HP bar drops. Better armour reduces the damage you take. If your HP reaches zero you lose a heart and the fight restarts; lose all your hearts and the quest ends. Later castles have stronger monsters with much more HP.
Is it good for children?
Yes. Junior mode (ages 4-10) uses large pictures, friendly audio and easy vocabulary, and also teaches simple sentence structure aligned to the Cambridge Starters and Movers path, so children learn to build correct sentences as well as words. Adventurer mode covers all levels with full word puzzles. You choose the mode on the first screen.
Where do the questions come from?
Every question is real ESL practice from 7ESL - vocabulary meaning, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, collocations, prepositions, sentence structure and grammar - drawn from genuine exam and practice banks and graded by CEFR level from A1 to C2. The answer position is shuffled each time and questions are spread across the six castles by level, so you have to actually know the English and rarely see the same item twice.
Is WordVenture free? Can I play on my phone?
Yes to both. WordVenture is completely free with no ads inside gameplay, and you can play as a guest with no sign-up. It is mobile-first: tap the fullscreen button to play in landscape with large touch controls. Signing in is optional and only saves the XP and progress you earn.
